4-Your-Top-50-Photos > eyemagination  > Photography > My favorite photos
From all my photos, I've chosen a small group that I consider the best of my best.

Every photographer knows that every photo taken has an inspiration behind it - something the photographer sees that he attempts to capture on film. But we also know, it eludes us more often than not. Some of these were chosen for successfully capturing that something, and some were chosen because my lens found the beauty that existed in the less obvious places. As someone once asked me, How do you manage to take beautiful pictures of ordinary things? I considered that a high compliment. If I were to display my photos in an art gallery, these are the ones I would pick! (which explains why pictures of my own artwork appear here)

eyemagination > One of my most popular photos, this was taken at the end of a cul-de-sac just north of the Fiscalini Preserve, on a placid day. It became the basis of a mural I painted, shown here at http://eyemagination.smugmug.com/gallery/8641256_4yJFt#570248051_MGN5h
eyemagination > I was replacing a dilapidated fence in the Los Angeles area, and noticed this orange tree growing in the front yard. I came early one morning with my camera, and snapped this picture of these beautiful oranges. The next day the tree had been picked clean by the homeowner, so I was glad I got these images when I did! This fruit is ripe and beautiful, and it tasted delicious!

One detail I really liked in this photo is the tiny bright highlights on the fruit, of sunlight filtered through the leaves. The days were over 110 degrees that week, so the sunlight was very intense.
eyemagination > A popular subject of my photos, this is Pelican Rock, in the bay at the south end of the Fiscalini Preserve. A good seaside photo has to have the right blend of land, sea, and sky. I think this one is a good composition, with a pleasing pallete of colors, and the breaking wave in the foreground adding interest.
eyemagination > Wandering the beach, its easy to overlook a shot like this. But the color and fractured light of the tidepool makes for an interesting mosaic, and the rippled effect brings to mind images of a David Hockney painting.

C'mon, take your shoes off and stick your toes in!
eyemagination > Another tidepool shot, this one is a favorite for its tasty blend of organic textures, colors, and shapes. What makes this photo interesting to me is the blend of complimentary and contrasting elements, in a balanced and yet not static, or symmetrical, composition.
eyemagination > This is the beach at the end of Ardath road, at low tide. I love the hazy atmosphere, the muted color and values, and the rugged, sculptural quality of the rocks. This one is definitely viewed best in the larger size. Can't you just smell the ocean air?
eyemagination > I was walking across the street from the Lynn's "Easy as Pie" cafe, when I looked down and saw this beautiful mini-jungle, in the shade by the sidewalk. I used my flash, 'tho it was daylight. I love the scattered bits of bright color peeking out from behind the rhythm of lush green leaves.
eyemagination > Nature gives us these little vignettes, small little compositions of pleasing textures and shapes, this one accented by the reflections on the surface of a small pool. I love capturing these little easy-to-miss mini-landscapes with my camera.
eyemagination > Refracted light shows off the natural greens and browns of the tidal zone, with the blue of the sky reflected in the background ocean surface. Its difficult to capture the underwater landscape and the rippled reflections of the tidepool in the same shot - I love the way the depth of field in this shot emphasizes the sweeping feeling of a living ocean.
